Actresses, actors, performing arts students, circus artists, clowns, performers, and anyone interested in physical work, masks, and the construction of the comic body from the perspective of Commedia dell’Arte.

S Y N O P S I S

In this Commedia dell’Arte workshop, participants will work with masks of the main archetypes such as Arlecchino, Brighella, Pulcinella, Pantalone, Dottore, and Capitano, focusing on their gestural models and physicality, using the construction of the comic body as a guiding thread. Practical work will focus on the segmentation of the spine and its joints, the composition of physical attitudes, movement analysis, and the study of the canovaccio and the lazzo, understood as fundamental axes of actor dramaturgy.

S Y N O P S I S

The Mask-Making Workshop offers a comprehensive journey through the fundamental techniques of sculpture applied to theatrical mask creation. The program includes modeling and mold-making, allowing each participant to conceive and create their own mask in cartapesta, an Italian paper-pressing technique.

Starting from an initial project that considers the stage space, the impact of light, and the dramatic context, a creative process is developed that connects thought, form, and function, making it possible to give presence and stage life to characters.

During the clay modeling phase, participants explore the principles of three-dimensional structure and mask morphology, as well as plaster reproduction techniques and material experimentation. The process culminates in the creation of the mask in cartapesta, so that each participant obtains a final piece that is solid, expressive, and fully functional for stage use.

At the end of the workshop, participants are invited to exhibit their masks in a temporary exhibition at the Madrid for Refugees venue.

Anyone interested in deepening their work on expressive body movement.

S Y N O P S I S

This is an intensive workshop on silent theatrical masks, dedicated to researching the body as the main driving force of scenic creation. Through work with the neutral mask, larval masks, and expressive masks, the course offers a progressive immersion into the analysis and codification of movement, bodily dynamics, and the physical construction of character.
Starting from the mechanics and anatomy of the body, participants develop awareness of the joints, the spine, and the qualities of movement (rhythm, weight, dynamics, and space). The pedagogical journey moves from neutrality toward expressiveness, exploring the relationship between form and movement, nature and animality, inner forces, passions, and character, culminating in the creation of physical, actor-driven dramaturgies.

O B J E C T I V E S

To develop in participants a deep understanding of the body in motion as a scenic language, enabling them to create characters, actions, and physical dramaturgies through work with theatrical masks and gestural theatre.
